Painted douglas fir combined with steel create a light, atmospheric home.
Steep, precarious sight calls for imaginative design
Situated on a cliffside location on the St Mawes estuary, we worked with Roderick James Architects, whose clients were looking for a seaside style home to reflect their coastal surroundings. The Douglas fir timber frame supports the design to make full use of its tricky yet stunning location.
Orientated to make the most of the fantastic views from the estuary and out to the open sea, large glazing provides magnificent views. A roof lantern draws light down into the centre of the house – a significantly more efficient lighting source when compared to windows in walls.
